Our canal and port services
Introduction to Panama Canal:
The Panama Canal is one of the two most strategic artificial waterways in the world. The other is the Suez Canal. Ships traveling between the East and west coasts of the United States had to bypass Cape Horn in South America. After using the Panama Canal, they can shorten the voyage by about 15000 kilometers (8000 miles). The Panama Canal is the dividing line between North and South America. The Panama Canal was built by the United States and has been under the sole control of the United States from 1914 to 1979. However, in 1979, control of the canal was transferred to the Panama Canal Commission, a joint body composed of the United States and the Republic of Panama, and all control was officially handed over to Panama on December 31, 1999. The operation and management of the canal is entrusted to the Panama Canal Authority, which is only responsible to the Panamanian government.
The Panama Canal has a total length of 81.3 kilometers, a water depth of 13-15 meters and a river width of 150-304 meters. The water level of the whole canal is 26 meters higher than that of the two oceans (Pacific and Atlantic), with six ship locks. It usually takes nine hours for ships to pass through the canal, and 76000 ton ships can be navigable.
Panama canal lock is 304.8m long, 33.53m wide and 12.55m deep.
